Apparently, in this crazy country we now call home, all that is needed is 1. the personal phone number of the man who activates internet and 2. a dollar fifty, to encourage this particular fairy to work his magic. After months of frustration, it looks like we will have internet (albeit very slow)! Time to celebrate with a biscuit! A few more quirky realizations in India:
*If the plumber says that he'll be here tomorrow between 9am and noon. The only thing we know for sure is that he won't be here tomorrow (our sink still does not work)
*If your toaster breaks within two days of buying it, they will send it away to get repaired (will I ever have a toaster again?) Update: the toaster is back after three weeks
*There are four main food groups: Chicken curry, Pork curry, Vegetable curry and Dahl (kinda like curry)
*Movies seen in the theater have a 10 minute intermission smack dab in the middle (even in the middle of a fight seen, as experienced with Kung Fu Panda II). When asked about this strange occurrence, someone exclaimed, "nobody could hold their bladder for that long!"
*Horns on vehicles generally wear out within a year from overuse (serious overuse)
*You must look both ways on a one-way street. Everyone drives the wrong way at some point because they arrive at their destination faster or they don't want to do a u- turn.
*At the expensive hospital, a doctor's visit costs approximately $8 without insurance. You can book an appointment for that day with a specialist (ENT, etc.) upon arrival
* The highest bill is equivalent to our $20. If you use it to buy something small, the merchant will be angry and may have to go borrow money from a friend to break your bill. Often they will give you candy and cough drops as change.
*If there are more than two male monkeys on the roof, do not hang your laundry
